Arman Khachatryan, one of the servicemen who returned from captivity in Azerbaijan, remains in prison in Armenia, as reported to Forrights.am by the RA Prosecutor General’s Office.

Arman Khachatryan is an officer. He was captured on November 16, 2021 during the battles in Syunik. He returned from captivity on December 29 of the same year and was arrested on December 31.

It should be noted that the Investigative Committee accuses those who returned from captivity of handing over their positions. These charges were brought against the prisoners of war after Nikol Pashinyan announced from the NA tribune that every case of captivity should be investigated and the reasons should be found out.

According to Arman Khachatryan’s lawyer Ruben Melikyan, the term of detention will expire in a few days and the lawyer will try to release Khachatryan on bail.

To note, within the framework of the preliminary investigation of the criminal case initiated on the military incident provoked by the Azerbaijani side on the border with Vayots Dzor-Syunik on November 14-16 last year, eight servicemen were arrested on suspicion of violating the rules of military duty or military service, six of whom were those returned from captivity.

The detained servicemen returned from captivity have been released during this period; Arman Khachatryan from Gyumri is the only one of the six remaining in prison.

It should be noted that 150 prisoners have returned from Azerbaijan since the ceasefire, 43 of whom are civilians.
