«Journalists For Human Rights» NGO was founded in 2008 after the presidential election, when 10 RA citizens were killed as a result of authorities’ violent activities during the post-election developments and many peaceful demonstrators were subjected to violence.
A group of human rights activists have created an organization that enabled to protect people`s rights through publicizing, ultimately protecting human rights without violating these rights.
Media is a powerful force that can have either positive or negative impact on the given event. This is the most important tool that informs the wide circle of people about human rights violations, which mobilizes the public and pushes for a fight. The journalist covering this area should be competent on the subject.
The effectiveness of coverage is closely related to the effectiveness of cooperation with human rights defenders and advocates. Human rights journalism requires legal knowledge, willingness and readiness to face many challenges and problems.
By covering these topics, journalists often face legal and ethical issues. The journalist should, first of all, be guided by the principle of objectivity, impartiality and balance, and the awareness of helping a person should also exist.
«Journalists For Human Rights» legal news site is guided by the above principles. This is a platform for those citizens of Armenia (journalists, activists, oppositionists and others) whose rights are violated and who are not indifferent about human right in Armenia.
The creation of www.forrights.am became possible by the support of the Eurasia Partnership Foundation.
One of our projects is « Accountable and Transparent Army through Civic Surveillance»
  About The Project
Because of the tension in the borders of Nagorno-Karabakh there are often victims from both sides. In 2014, for example, 46 deaths were registered in Armed Forces of Armenia from which only 26 were due to violation of the ceasefire. This is the average number of deaths for recent years, but the reason of death cases were usually interpersonal relationship inside the Armenian Army. Many cases of violation of Human Rights and violence in the army were not fully revealed for the society. There was some news in the mainstream media about death cases in the army, but these could not reflect the whole image.
« Journalists for Human Rights» NGO has conducted journalistic investigations on death cases in Armenian Armed Forces and has raised issues concerning the violations of Human Rights during the trials and omit of law enforcement bodies. Our articles have stimulated more public discussions which have enhanced civil activity.
Cooperation between Ministry of Defence and «Journalists for Human Rights» NGO has contributed to the enhancement of transparency and accountability of Armed Forces gaining the public trust and reducing the tension in the region.
