The first case of infection with coronavirus was reported in Armenia, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan informed on his Facebook page.
“Dear compatriots,
About two hours ago we had the first confirmed case of infection with coronavirus, unfortunately. The patient is a 29-year-old citizen of Armenia, a man who arrived from Tehran with his wife on February 28 by airplane. He went to hospital, and he is well – he had temperature at the moment of going to the hospital, now he does not even have temperature. The first test was positive, the results of the second test became known at 3 am Yerevan time today.
It should be noted that the patient’s wife tested negative. In other words, she does not have the virus. Now the government will take the necessary measures defined by the rules of the World Health Organization.
The people who had contacts of risk with the patient will be isolated. I would also like to mention that there were citizens of Armenia on board the plane from Tehran, and the flight was intended to exercise their indefeasible right to return home.
All the passengers were wearing masks in Tehran and on the plane, from the plane and in the airport they were accompanied by special order in order to avoid unnecessary contacts.
The border control officer who registered the entry of the patient and his wife has been identified. By the way, the border guards were also wearing medical masks and gloves.
The taxis which took the patient from airport to home and from home to hospital will be identified, and their drivers will also be isolated. We will provide high-level but isolated hotel lodging for the isolated citizens. In total, today 30 citizens will be isolated,” he said.
All the necessary actions are taken to prevent the virus from spreading. At noon the minister of health Arsen Torosyan will hold a press conference and share all the available information as of that time.
The prime minister asked to keep calm and only refer to information spread by the government and official agencies, as well as follow the safety measures advised by the Ministry of Health to prevent the spread of the infection.
